How to slay personal development whilst on the hustle

Wednesday, 4 December 2019

g

Hello and welcome to my blog.
For some of us, once our parents paid for our education up to first degree level, they expect us to continue life...i.e. get a job, take care of ourselves and them too in some cases. They believe they have equipped us enough to do exploits in our career and life. In this day and age it may or may not be sufficient. while some people thrive with the barest minimum, most need extra training to make head way. This training may or may not be within the four walls of a classroom.

It could be the graduate that went to a fashion school, or the accounting graduate that needs a professional Certification like ICAN, ACCA or the School certificate holder that needs to learn a trade.

I am an advocate of continuous development because static water smells.
The only constant thing in life is change and as the world around us evolve, one also has to do the same to be able to remain relevant....so in your career, business and life, you should always strive to gain more and new knowledge to improve and better your craft.

How do you manage your day job, business, side hustle (for those that have that too) with personal development and be successful at them all?

1. Always remember the why
Remind yourself of the reason why you need to take that course, training or degree everyday and it may be what will keep you going when the going gets tough.

2. Maximize your weekends
Time as a resource for self development is limited so you need to utilize the available one efficiently. That means if you have to study or attend classes or learn that skill, you may need to utilize your weekends which will eliminate some social activities but it will be worth it in the end. It may not be palatable when you are making those sacrifices but it is always worth it at the end.

3. Start early
So you have an exam or embark on a course, don't wait till the last minute to start studying....start to study from day one, if possible when the school is on break get the syllabus before resumption and start studying. It will help ease a lot of stress.....slow and steady wins the race.

4. Mingle with fellow students
Be equally yoked with your fellow scholars or trainees no matter how busy you are, they will keep you informed on those days that you can't just keep up with your studies or training because of other dissenting responsibilities.

5. Flexible studies....is the learning approach that allows for flexibility of time, place and audience.
e.g. National open university of Nigeria can serve that purpose. Studies with them is very flexible. There are also universities or schools that offer flexible study alternatives.

6. Online Studies: is the use of technology to learn. Schools like ABU Zaria offer that service and if you can afford it, there are schools abroad that offer online qualifications or training.

6. Maximize your leave days: If you have  9 to 5, I am sure you hve leave days. You may need to put taking your leve days for fun on hold so you can take that time off when there is a need for you to have time for your personal development activity

7. Research online
8. Less socials

9. Before and after work studies

10.Wake up at night
11. Fall don, rise again

Brand Spotlight: Unknown

Thursday, 7 November 2019
Hello beautiful people, welcome to my blog.
Today I am showcasing a made in Nigeria brand called Unknown.
My relationship with Unknown dates back to 2016. I went to a friend's house on this fateful day and saw a beautiful Kaftan hanging as she was preparing for an outing. It was love at first sight with the outfit and I had to have it.....I got the brand's number from her and the rest is history.

My first Unknown piece

Unknown is an Abuja based Nigerian brand who believes that no tiny label should stop you from being your stylish self. Their level of excellence got them to second place in MSME Awards 2019. And I can testify to that as I still rock all the pieces I got from the brand since 2016 to date.

Unknown stocks beautiful Ankara dresses

Skirts and tops

Mixed prints

and even non-ankara pieces in different styles.

You can catch them on Instagram @unknownbrandng or meet them at the Naija Brand Chick trade fair happening on the 7th of December 2019 at Edmunds Event Centre, 80 Dabras Hotel Wuse 2 Abuja. Their retail price is from 5000 to 15,000 Naira.

My favorite is the shirt dress that I belted, which is yours?

Monday, 15 July 2019
Hello beautiful people. welcome to my blog.
It's been a minute but I am here now to share a link to an amazing dress I got from Eric dress.

I did a post titled How Eric Dressed me about the brand last year click here to read it where I shared the pieces I got from them at that time and sizing details.

This maxi dress looks like ankara but it is not ankara but ankara inspired though. It is very breathable and easy breezy just the way I like my dresses plus it has two pockets. You know how I feel abut clothes with pockets....pure love.

You may need to go a size up to shop for this dress as I wear size Medium (UK 10 top and size UK 12 bottom) but I ordered this dress in size Large and it is a perfect fit.

Check out the back of the dress...it has belt sewn to the dress with the same fabric. You may not see the belt because I tied it loosely.

I got 6 pieces from the brand but will share the remaining 5 in a subsequent post.

I also threw a blazer on the dress to make it work appropriate

Denim Day out with Princess and Debzy

Tuesday, 28 May 2019

Hello beautiful people, welcome to my blog.
I am ashamed of apologizing since I went MIA again after promising to stop....I always fail to keep that promise so I am not doing that any more, as per when to expect a blog post.We see when we see. *covers face

Well I am here now but not here alone, I am here with my blogger babes Princess, whom you have met here  here  here and here when we did collaborations

and Debzy of Debswriteblog whom I met on the street of Instagram sometime last year and have never met in person till last Saturday when we met for this shoot.

We did a denim themed shoot and here we are:

I own quite a number of denim pieces, but I am not really a denim buff. This stems from the fact that I am at work most of my waking hours and I try not to do denim to work even though we don't have a dress code but the accountant in me will not let me and Friday is reserved for Ankara...lol

I opted for a denim shirt with a denim button through skirt and accessorized with a belt bag in red and black snake print for that pop of colour and I paid homage to both the belt bag and my outfit with the choice of my shoes which is predominantly black but has colorful details which has red and finished it off with a black baker boy cap to match all the blacks on my outfit and accessories.

So much joy shooting with Princess and Debzy, please visit their blog www.princessaudu.com and www.debwritesblog.com to read their take on this collaboration.....the two of them unlike me can write! so trust me you will enjoy their blog post.

Whose style resonates more with you?

How To Wear A Polka Dot Maxi Dress In 4 Ways

Monday, 6 May 2019
Hello beautiful people, welcome to my blog.
I got this polka dot maxi dress from Queenette Couture, a Nigerian Ready To Wear Brand.....wore another outfit from the brand last year Click Here to read that post.

We all have that "I don't know what to wear" moment from time to time, you can always restyle your maxi dresses to suit the occasion and give a different vibe. That was what I did with this Polka Dot Maxi dress which I styled in 4 ways.

1. I styled the dress with a neck piece which you can buy here and a straw bag for a casual look and outing.

2. A blazer over the dress for work

3. Added a straw hat to the blazer look for church or a day at the races when Meghan Markle finally gets that invite across *she is my best friend in my head...lol

4. The Dress over a black and white stripe shirt. This is my favourite of the 4. I will wear this for a family event, to hang out with the girls or for a date depending on where we are going.

There are still several ways to style this.......I am thinking the skirt over dress styling for fashion week.....if you are into that.....how else will you style it?

You can can place your order for this versatile dress on:
Instagram: @queenettecouture
WhatsApp or call: 08131096950

Which is your favourite look and where will you wear it to?
