How to slay personal development whilst on the hustle

Wednesday, 4 December 2019

Hello and welcome to my blog.
For some of us, once our parents paid for our education up to first degree level, they expect us to continue life...i.e. get a job, take care of ourselves and them too in some cases. They believe they have equipped us enough to do exploits in our career and life. In this day and age it may or may not be sufficient. while some people thrive with the barest minimum, most need extra training to make head way. This training may or may not be within the four walls of a classroom.

It could be the graduate that went to a fashion school, or the accounting graduate that needs a professional Certification like ICAN, ACCA or the School certificate holder that needs to learn a trade.

I am an advocate of continuous development because static water smells.
The only constant thing in life is change and as the world around us evolve, one also has to do the same to be able to remain in your career, business and life, you should always strive to gain more and new knowledge to improve and better your craft.

How do you manage your day job, business, side hustle (for those that have that too) with personal development and be successful at them all?

1. Always remember the why
Remind yourself of the reason why you need to take that course, training or degree everyday and it may be what will keep you going when the going gets tough.

2. Maximize your weekends
Time as a resource for self development is limited so you need to utilize the available one efficiently. That means if you have to study or attend classes or learn that skill, you may need to utilize your weekends which will eliminate some social activities but it will be worth it in the end. It may not be palatable when you are making those sacrifices but it is always worth it at the end.

3. Start early
So you have an exam or embark on a course, don't wait till the last minute to start studying....start to study from day one, if possible when the school is on break get the syllabus before resumption and start studying. It will help ease a lot of stress.....slow and steady wins the race.

4. Mingle with fellow students
Be equally yoked with your fellow scholars or trainees no matter how busy you are, they will keep you informed on those days that you can't just keep up with your studies or training because of other dissenting responsibilities.

5. Flexible the learning approach that allows for flexibility of time, place and audience.
e.g. National open university of Nigeria can serve that purpose. Studies with them is very flexible. There are also universities or schools that offer flexible study alternatives.

6. Online Studies: is the use of technology to learn. Schools like ABU Zaria offer that service and if you can afford it, there are schools abroad that offer online qualifications or training.

6. Maximize your leave days: If you have  9 to 5, I am sure you hve leave days. You may need to put taking your leve days for fun on hold so you can take that time off when there is a need for you to have time for your personal development activity

7. Research online
8. Less socials

9. Before and after work studies

10.Wake up at night
11. Fall don, rise again

Why is Death not a dress rehearsal? + 3 work outfits

Friday, 15 February 2019

Happy new year.....yes happy new year because this is my first post of 2019.
I didn't plan for it to be so ..... 2018 actually ended on a very high note, not crack or cocaine high but happy high and I entered 2019 with big dreams, great plans, high expectations  and great energy only for life to happen.

I lost my Father on the 5th of January and life has not been the same.....nothing prepares you for the finality of death, absolutely nothing gets you ready.I wish death had a dress rehearsal and not the main act just like that......maybe one can be a bit prepared. It still feels unreal that my Father is 6 feet under.....Shame on Adam, Eve and that creepy crawly thing called snake, they brought all this upon us..........I am not sure the vacuum will ever get filled but people say it gets better with time so I am patiently waiting to see if it does.

My father's death just reiterated what I have always known which is to LIVE.....Live life whatever sets your soul on fire and without apologies too, the world will adjust.........eventually and if they don't? So be it, just LIVE.

I am back to regular programme and just thought to share these three work outfits.  My instagram followers seem to love the check blazer and burgundy pleated skirt look better based on the likes the photo got.

How to make sequin work for work

Wednesday, 13 February 2019

Hello beautiful people, welcome to my blog.

When people hear, see or buy sequin, they think festivities like Christmas, Valentine or big occasions and red carpet events but I decided to make it work for work with the way I styled my sequin top.

Blazers make everything work for work so I decided to style the sequin top with a long line blazer and went monotone with the whole look to tone the "sequiness" of the top down and make it work as an office outfit.

I got the top from Lola's Vintage Store.....They are a vintage store that stock amazing vintage and vintage inspired should totally check them out.I will leave their phone number below.

What do you think of this look? Can you wear something like this to work?

How to slay to work: Blazer and or suit edition.

Monday, 26 November 2018
Hello beautiful people, welcome to my blog

We spend most of our waking hours at work, we should as well look our best while at rock your suit or blazer in a memorable way:

1. Mix I mixed leopard prints and stripe. If you are not very comfortable with mixing prints start by mixing two prints or pattern then grow from there.

2. Rock Shorts in a tasteful manner.....styling an outfit to work with a beret is also a good idea.

3. Wear prints on prints

4. Wear same pattern head to toe...well almost to the toe

5. Pleats please.....and a check blazer to add little more pizazz to the outfit

6. Wear Ankara blazer.....and a lot of colour

7. Tulle is always a good idea....just make it office worthy with a blazer

I hope with this few points of mine I have been able to convince and not confuse you that you can look uber stylish to work in a blazer  and or suit.

I love my ankara and then the mixed prints....which is your favourite of the looks?

Suited in silk

Monday, 29 October 2018
Hello beautiful people, welcome to my blog.
Don't you just love this silk suit?
I love do it no justice.
I got the silk fabric from the only tailor I keep, who i talked about Click here in How to manage Nigerian tailors
But since she delays I took it to a tailor I just met as per my 'tailor prostituting' strategy of this post here
And we have a very fabulous suit that I am rocking to work today.
I will also rock it to church with sandals and a clutch soon.
I can also wear them as separates with other pieces
Fabric is 1000 Naira a yard (maybe a bit cheaper in the market) and I used 4 yards for this.
Morale of this post: you need not break the bank to look good.

P.S. There is this under wear I wear to keep things in place if you know what I mean but I forgot it when I went for this shoot and I was measured with it on......hence the crease.

What do you think of my new suit?
